Oregon Republican Mainstream Principles
Fundamental Republican Principle - Government should be fiscally responsible, limited and non-intrusive.
Personal Responsibility - Responsible citizenship and personal responsibility are key to encouraging the social and moral behaviors that fortify a strong society.
Free Enterprise System - Individual initiative and competition build America's economic engine, not the government. Equal access for all persons to economic opportunity is an essential element in making the United States a land of prosperity.
Participation in the Political Process - Involvement of an informed citizenry in the political process is essential if we are to have a truly representative government and a strong, vital Republican Party.
The Family - Families are the appropriate institutions to teach the values of our society.
American System of Freedom - All Americans have fundamental rights under our Constitution to liberty, due process of law, equal protection under the law and economic freedom.
Religious Freedom - Religion is a matter of personal conscience. The State should neither interfere with each person's free exercise of religion nor favor any particular religion, but maintain firm separation between state and church.
Judging People Only on Character, Ability, and Accomplishments - A unique and necessary characteristic of America is that we maintain unity as a society while accommodating ethnic, cultural, religious, political and societal diversity.
Education - Public-funded, efficiently administered education is a fundamental obligation of our society to insure that the United States remains competitive in our global economy. We also welcome privately financed education as a competitive alternative to public education.
Environmental Protection - We support equitable use of natural resources, balancing the needs of people and the environment. We recognize the value of renewable resources and the need for sound science in environmental policy.
Right of Americans to Protect Themselves - By guaranteeing the right of Americans to keep and bear arms, the Second Amendment provides a vital means for law-abiding Americans to protect themselves.
Oregon Mainstream Republicans are dedicated to these positive actions:
PARTY SUPPORT - We will work within the Party structure to build a strong and broad-based Republican Party.
OUTREACH - We will be a tolerant and welcoming force, reaching out to all those who wish to become Republicans.
NETWORKING - We will maintain communication among Mainstream Republicans.
ENERGIZING REPUBLICANS - We will reach Republicans in Oregon with the Mainstream message.
CANDIDATE SUPPORT - We will help recruit and assist Republican candidates.

NOT A THIRD PARTY - As Republicans, we are working to change the Party from within - to make it stronger and more responsive. We are dedicated to supporting the winners of Republican primaries, not Democrats or third party candidates. While we may vigorously debate policy, we will follow Ronald Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment to not speak ill of fellow Republicans.
NOT A SINGLE ISSUE GROUP - We welcome Republicans with diverse opinions and do NOT apply litmus tests on any single issue. For example, we recognize that abortion is one of the most divisive issues within the Republican Party. Oregon Republican Mainstream includes those who are “Pro-Choice” and those who are “Pro-Life”. The point is that we know we all don’t agree on this issue. We do NOT use it as a litmus test and agree to work together to further the Republican cause by getting common sense Republicans elected to public office and elected to Republican Party leadership positions.
